Ams Osram (ams AG, SIX: AMS), a leading global provider of optical solutions, today announced that its multispectral technology product has been adopted as a core Device by BiologyWorks k(now)™, a device capable of Enables economical, rapid laboratory-scale molecular testing for COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and other viral infections.
Peter Marx, founder of BiologyWorks, said: “The spectral sensor from ams Osram is a key component in the BiologyWorks k(now)™ device and has the unique ability to identify samples quickly and reliably, ensuring accurate digital results.”
Using the BiologyWorks k(now)™ device is simple: take a sample with an anterior nasal swab, add to two fluid-filled tubes in succession and mix, then take a drop of the mixture into a single-use cartridge; then insert the cartridge into the molecular detection device . The device has high accuracy, low cost, and can detect multiple indicators at the same time; finally, use a smartphone to scan the QR code on the device’s Display to obtain the COVID-19 test results.
The BiologyWorks k(now)™ device uses the 10-channel spectral sensor AS7341L from ams Osram, which provides highly accurate spectral identification for reflectance or fluorescence measurements. The multi-wavelength method of the AS7341L enables cost-effective multi-analyte detection and is available in a mobile device-compatible package. With BiologyWorks’ cutting-edge software and hardware, combined with LAMP chemistry technology, analysis and results can be performed at home in minutes.
Jennifer Zhao, Executive Vice President of Advanced Optical Sensors at ams Osram, said: “We are proud to be at the forefront of spectral sensing technologies enabling point-of-care and home-based COVID-19 through products such as the BiologyWorks k(now)™ device -19 virus detection. Our sensor solutions are designed to improve the speed, sensitivity and cycle time of a variety of diagnostic tests. These fast, accurate and economical large-scale detection solutions can play a huge role in controlling the spread of the virus, helping to We revive the economy and resume many of the social activities we have shut down over the past year.”
